About Kevin Catalon
Kevin Catalon is a Filipino-American educator, conductor, and baritone from Fords, New Jersey. Kevin is a senior at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ and will graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in May 2026. Currently he serves as the Bass Choral Scholar at First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen. Kevin also recently finished student teaching at East Brunswick High School teaching choir to grades 10–12.
At Westminster, Kevin is a recipient of the full-tuition Trustee Scholarship. He studies voice with Margaret Cusack and piano with Jim Goldsworthy. Kevin sings with the Westminster Choir under the direction of Donald Nally, and has also sung with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, Chapel Choir, Jubilee Singers, and Outreach Choir. He is also a singer on the 2023 album An Evening of Readings And Carols under the direction of James Jordan.
As a music educator, Kevin is dedicated to fostering a community of music lovers who display their creativity, lead passionately, and work toward musical excellence. He values the student’s world, nurturing their musical journey wherever they are and finding ways to incorporate the music they love into the classroom. Kevin is passionate about exposing students to a body of repertoire that is engaging, diverse, and pedagogically valuable.
A scholar, Kevin engages in research and professional development to further his learning and improve the level of music education in his local community and beyond. Most recently, he authored a peer-reviewed article in Nota Bene: Canadian Undergraduate Journal of Musicology titled “‘Wiyawi Ebi’: A Study of Kalinga Vocal Music in the Philippines.” In addition, he is an active member of ACDA and NAfME—regularly attending regional and national conferences. Kevin served as the President of Westminster Choir College’s Collegiate NAfME Chapter 183 from 2024–2025.
In his free time, Kevin enjoys discovering different types of music, playing video games, and caring for his pet rabbit, Teo!
